Betta Byraveshwara Temple,Sakleshpur

Betta byraveshwara temple is devoted to Lord Shiva, situated on the bank of River Hemavathi. This Temple is located in the Hassan District of Karnataka, just 1.5km away from Sakleshpur Bus Stand. Betta byraveshwara temple is one of the ancient and popular temples of Karnataka. It is a popular tourist attraction in Karnataka especially for Hindu Pilgrimages. The Temple is surrounded by beautiful and magnificent green hills of Western Ghats with beautiful flora and fauna. The temperature in Sakleshpur is moderate and has a plantation area for Coffee, Pepper, and Cardamom. The temple is beautifully designed by the ancient architecture with great perfections which is even praised by the tourists today.


HISTORY


Betta byraveshwara temple was constructed between the 11th to 14th Century. In South India, when the Hoysala Empire was at its apex, the temple was crafted by the Hoysala’s Expert Craftsman. The Sakleshpur City is also named after this Holy Temple and as one is entering the Sakleshpur Town, the temple is visible to them at the entrance. As with any other temple, this ancient temple had been the worship place for the locals. A massive statue of Lord Shiva in the temple is a major attraction for visitors and pray for their well-being to Lord Shiva. The famous Rath Yatra of this temple takes place on the Purnima Night of February month of every year, to be part of this Rath Yatra pilgrimage gather in large numbers and take blessings of Lord Shiva.


GUIDE ROUTE TO THE TEMPLE


The temple is around 130 km from the main city of Mangalore and can be reached using public transport like State or Private bus, and also through personalized and rental cars. Although traveling by public transport will be more cost-effective as the temple is on the Highway and can be reached by taking a small walk from the highway. Just be aware of the timing of the buses before reaching the temple, so that you can come back to Mangalore. The advantage of Private or Rental Cars is that you can spend as much time as you want on the premises of the temple and capture beautiful photos with the Green hills of the Western Ghats in the background and the Hemavathi River flowing beside the temple. You don’t have to be in a rush to get onto the last bus to reach Mangalore and can also stop in between to examine a wonderful landscape during your road journey.


SCHEDULE & TIMINGS OF THE SERVICE


The temple is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. The Morning Aarti in the temple takes place at 6:00 a.m. and the evening Aarti at 6:30 p.m. There is no entry fee to enter the temple and doors are open for all the pilgrims irrespective of which religion they belong to. Although there is no specific dress code to visit the temple it is advised to wear decent clothes and avoid more fashionable clothes.
